OSCA Columbus Day Weekend Update!
Change in Venue
Ahoy OSCA Fleet!

We received word on Saturday that the Wickford Yacht Club is unavailable Columbus Day Weekend. There are some plumbing issues that the club is correcting but unfortunately won't be complete for Columbus Day Weekend.
But don't fret. We have come up with an alternate site. Lee Rabbitt made a bunch of calls and we are in at the Ida Lewis Yacht Club in Newport! The mooring fee is $65 per night. Reservations need to be made ASAP because we need to send a check to Ida Lewis. Please email Lee at leerabbitt@cox.net or call her at (401) 397-9662 or (401) 641-5265 (cell). Checks will be payable to OSCA and sent to Bev Zmuda 345 Shove St, Fall River, MA 02724.
The International Octoberfest is taking place at the Newport Yachting Center that weekend on Saturday and Sunday. That may be a great thing to do on Saturday. Go to waterfrontevents.com for more info.
I'm really excited about the new location. OSCA has not been to Newport in a while. Parking is available for those who want to arrive by land yachts.
Please contact Lee as soon as soon as you can to let her know if you are planning to come by land or by sea.
Thanks,
Jeff

September Updates

Ahoy OSCA Fleet!
I can't believe it is mid-September already.  The days are getting shorter and a little cooler but we still have some great sailing days ahead.  Our Labor Day Weekend at Bristol Yacht Club was a big hit.  The weather and company was perfect and the Bristol Yacht Club was a gracious host!  We had a nice pot luck dinner on Saturday evening in the picnic area. On Sunday we had five Mercury boats participate in the Ted Trudeau Regatta.  A few boats crashed (no points deducted) and one was hit by the committee boat (that will teach them to argue with the committee boat!).  We had three great races and in the end Bev and Mark Zmuda took home the hardware.  Congratulations Bev & Mark!  Sunday evening we had another outstanding treat, the lobsta boil put on by Bill and Paula Kaylor.  We started off with chowda (great idea Janet), then lobsta/corn/potato salad and then desert.  WOW!  Everything was fabulous!  Thanks Bill & Paula!  That night Kevin Slattery entertained us with a sing-along.  He played until his fingers nearly fell off!  Thank you Kevin for entertaining us.  A big thank you to Vice Commodore David Arnold for coordinating the weekend.

Upcoming Events!

Columbus Day Weekend Rendezvous
Join OSCA at the Wickford Yacht Club on October 6 - 8 for our last sailing event of the season! Wickford is such a picturesque village and the yacht club is a scenic setting.  If you can't make it by boat please come down on Sunday morning to go sailing with a friend.  Bring a sandwich and a beverage and head out for a glorious day on the bay!  What could be better than that!  Sunday night we will have a pizza party followed a Membership meeting and the election of the 2013 officers.

Mooring reservations can be made through our host Lee and Kevin Rabbitt by October 1st.  You can reach them at leerabbitt@cox.net or call 401-397-9662 or 401-641-5265 (cell).  The mooring fee is $40 per night.  Payment can be made to WYC upon arrival (cash or check). Fleet Captain Needed
Please consider being our Fleet Captain for 2013.  It is a great opportunity to server on the OSCA Board and plan one of our signature events.  There are a number of people available to help but we really need someone to take the lead.  Please contact me or any of the board members if you are interested.

As the season winds down I hope to see you at our remaining events.  It has been a great year!  Life is good!

Dead of Winter Party Rescheduled

Well it seems like our Dead of Winter Party channeled the winter season to Rhode Island.  So far there is 6 inches of snow on the ground in Bristol.  So, due to the hazardous conditions the Dead of Winter Party has been reschedule to February 11.  The party will still be at Jill and Matt Clement's house in North Kingstown and will start at 6pm.  We hope to see you there!

An update on the FLOSCA Dead of Winter Party.  If you need to contact Vanessa about the Florida OSCA Dead of Winter Party, she can be reached at (401) 374-4090 (cell) or by email at vcournoyer@fgcu.edu.  Please RSVP by February 12 if you plan to attend that event.

OSCA Updates

Ahoy OSCA Fleet!

It sure doesn't feel like November.  Once we got by the freak snow storm in October the weather has been incredible.  Hopefully everyone has been able to put their boats to bed for the winter without incurring frostbite.

The Haul Out party was a great success.  We had 39 people attend the event on 11/5 at Jacky's Galaxie in Bristol.  It was nice to see Cary Hallinan back in the area and meet our newest members Herb Kaiser and Betty Stickney.  Herb and Betty bought Odyssey from Ron and Ann Nickles.
The 2012 Flag officers were introduced.  The are:
Treasurer - Bev Zmuda from Morning Star II
Secretary- Deb Chirnside from Sudsea
Fleet Captians - Jill Clement and Lee Rabbitt from Sorritas
Rear Commodore - Bill Kaylor from Seanchai
Vice Commodore - David Arnold from Prints of Tides
Commodore - Yours truly, Jeff Chirnside from Sudsea
We thanked the outgoing officers for their dedicated service to the club.
Anne Anthony - Past Commodore
Bill Hague - Secretary
John Impagliazzo - Commodore
We also recognized Peggy Perrotto for her significant achievement of being named Teacher of the Year.

The Dead of Winter Party will have a new venue for 2012.  Jill and Matt Clement have graciously offered to host the party.  They live in North Kingstown, RI.  The date and time will be communicated to everyone once that has been decided.

The offices will hold their first meeting in December and I am looking for input from you.  Specifically input on the following topics would be greatly appreciated:
- What types of events would you like OSCA to hold?  Are there new things you would like us to consider?
- What can we do to increase participation at events?
- What can we do to increase membership

It's hard to believe Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away.  I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.

Cheers,
Jeff Chirnside
