Ahoy OSCA Fleet!
Last weekend we had a wonderful time at the Ida Lewis Yacht Club in Newport, RI. The sail on Saturday was exciting in 25 knots of breeze. For many of us the wind was on the chin which made for lots of tacks. All in all it was a great sail. We had eight boats show up. On Saturday night we had a party of 17 at the Red Parrot for dinner and merriment. The food was good and the company was even better! Sunday brought favorable conditions and weatherman Matt was spot on that the showers would arrive around 2pm. We did not sail so it gave yours truly a chance to re-attach the rub rail to the boat (see I told you we sailed fast on Saturday!). Sunday afternoon/evening we had ILYC to ourselves. We watch the Patriots beat the Broncos and had a great pizza party. On Monday we attempted to sail home but had to fire up the engines due to lack of headway in 5 knots of breeze. All in all it was a fabulous weekend. A huge tip of the hat to Lee Rabbitt for pulling this together at the last minute. Great job Lee! And a big OSCA Thank You to ILYC for having us at their great location. They could not have been more accommodating.

At the rendezvous we held a membership meeting. One of the big topics of discussion was about ways to increase our membership. We voted and approved the position of Membership Liaison and Matt Clement was nominated to fill that role. The 2013 Flag Officers were nominated and approved. The slate of officers for 2013 is:
Commodore - Jeff Chirnside
Vice Commodore - Jill Clement
Rear Commodore - Lee Rabbitt
Fleet Captain - TBD
Secretary - Deb Chirnside
Treasurer - Kevin Rabbitt
Past Commodore - John Impagliazzo
Membership Liaison - Matt Clement
Web Master - Ron Lewis

Ahoy OSCA Fleet!

Just a reminder we will be at the Ida Lewis Yacht Club in scenic Newport, RI this weekend.  We have a number of boats registered and I am looking forward to seeing everyone.  The forecast looks pretty good as well.

We will be keeping the weeekend schedule pretty much as it was for Wickford with the exception of Saturday night.  Saturday night we will head to the Red Parrot, a really cool spot that can handle a crowd.  Food is good and reasonably priced.  Please call Lee Rabbitt at 401-641-5265 if you are coming by car and plan to go to the Parrott.  ILYC is have a chowder night on Saturday that is sold out.  If folks want to cook on the grills at ILYC then that is available also.

Old Port Launch services the Ida Lewis area at the bottom of each hour.  They can be hailed on Ch 68.  The launch will be running from 9am to 10pm.  Brenton Cove is on call on the hour to the Cove & on the half hour returning.  The fee is $3 per person each way.

Ahoy OSCA Fleet!

Each year the Cruising Award is given to the boat that travels the longest distance (total accumulated mileage) on a single cruise. There are two awards, one for Retirees and one for Non-Retirees. Please submit your travel logs to me by October 31 if you would like to be considered for this year's award.

Smooth sailing!
