OSCA Updates May 2013
Ahoy OSCA Fleet!
It's hard to believe this weekend is Memorial Day. Our sails are rigged an we are ready to go! Hopefully your preparations are going well.
In April we had two fun events. First, four of us, Debbie & John Greenwood, David Arnold and yours truly picked up trash along the Bristol shore as part of Save the Bay's Earth Day Cleanup. I also managed to pick up some poison ivy but it was all worth it. The next afternoon was our Wine & Cheese Event at QDNYC. We had a very interesting speaker, Richard Fernie, who told us about his trip to South America and sailing adventure in the area and around Cape Horn. Quite an experience! A big THANK YOU to Bob Stanich for hosting and to Rear Commodore Lee Rabbitt for making the arrangements.

BYOE Rendezvous at the North Kingstown Town Beach
This is our first time to the town beach just south of the Wickford Harbor break water. Here are the details:
Date: June 29 - 30
Rate: Free (anchorage)
The plan is to anchor off of Poplar point, in the vicinity of the Wickford Town Beach on Saturday night. The best grounds are closer to the north end of the cove. The bottom is rocky in this area, so stay well off the beach. The safest spots to anchor are where the water transitions from 7-9 feet to 15-17 feet, favoring the north end of the cove, just to the south of the jetty and keeping well away from the flashing green (Fl G 6s 40ft 6MI "1".) In the cove you can pull your dinghy onto the beach, to the north of the designated swim area. If you stay well outside the marked swimming area you will also avoid the very large rock, that is barely submerged at high tide.
A cookout on the beach would be neat or a jaunt to Duffy's would be fun. Anyway this is meant to be very low keyed.
Life is Good! See ya on the water!

OSCA Updates March
2013
Ahoy
OSCA Fleet!
Spring and
daylight savings time have arrived! I love having the extra hour or so of
daylight at the end of the day. The forecast is for afternoon high temps near
50! I can almost smell the bottom paint. So, it's time to pull back the covers
and get ready to get our bottoms wet.
On March 9 we
had a small but cheery crowd attend our Fleet Night at West Marine. West
Marine, our gracious hosts, did a fine job with the wine and cheese spread. It
was a great time to talk about upcoming events and pick up items to prepare our
boats for the sailing season. A big THANK YOU to Vice Commodore Lee Rabbitt for
making all the arrangements.
The OSCA
renewals were mailed out at the beginning of March. Did you get yours? There
were 100 mailed and so far 45 have been returned. If you need a new form please
contact Deb Chirnside at (401) 253-8584 or email at jdskchirns@aol.com. Our yearbook will
be published very shortly and we want to make sure it is up to date with all
your information.

OSCA
Updates February 2013
Ahoy
OSCA Fleet!
February is a short
month and time has just flown by. The weather for the past three weekends has
been encouraging as we have been getting less and less snow. Soon we may have a
dry weekend so we can go out and begin to get our toys ready for summer.
On January 26 we had
our Annual Dead of Winter Party at the home of Lee and Kevin Rabbitt. The
weather cooperated so we did not need to reschedule this year's event. We had a
nice gathering and Cruise Coach John Impagliazzo brought us up to date on the
summer cruise. Oh, incase you did not hear, we are still looking for a Fleet
Captain. It is not to late to sign up! It was nice to see the OSCA group again.
I want to send a big THANK YOU to Lee and Kevin for hosting.
The OSCA renewals will be going out shortly. We ask that you return them promptly. Make sure you mention us to your friends at the marina, yacht club or other gathering spots because we are always interested in having new members join our great club.
Upcoming
Events:
Fleet
Night - March 9th
This
year's Fleet Night will be on Saturday March 9 form 6pm - 8pm at the West
Marine in Middletown, RI. West Marine is extending the following discounts to
our group:

$20
off $200 or more
$50
of $300
This
is always a fun event to see what others are buying for their boats and get
tips and pointers to make that spring preparation easier. So come on down to
West Marine on 3/9. If I have a guess we will be going out for adult beverages
afterwards. I hope to see you there.
Wine
& Cheese
Plans are still in the
works for the Wine & Cheese party. I will send out the details once more
information is available.
Save the Bay Earth Day Cleanup
Save the Bay is
holding their Earth Day Cleanup on Saturday April 20 from 11 am - 12 pm. I

community and cleanup the shoreline of our beautiful bay. It only takes a few
hours and provides a great deal of satisfaction. Please send me an email (jdskchirns@aol.com)
if you can participate.
Summer
